Pastors' Recommended Ministries
Obviously, we can't control what's on these other ministry sites, and we are probably not in complete and total theological agreement with any of them (or with each other), but these are ministries that Pastor Schumacher and Pastor Krohse have found helpful.
- 9Marks 9Marks is a ministry of Capitol Hill Baptist Church (pastored by Mark Dever). The name comes from Dever's book Nine Marks of a Healthy Church, which is a very helpful guide to discovering the biblical pattern for healthy, God-honoring churches. 9marks provides many resources for pastors and church leaders, including training conferences like our Fall 2007 Northbrook Conference (see below).
- Abort73 This is an excellent source of information on abortion without an explicitly Christian emphasis. The creator of the Abort73 believes that many people would oppose abortion if they just had more information, and if you take a look at the website (especially the testimonials), we think you'll agree that this is a worthwhile project.
- Albert Mohler Albert Mohler is the president of The Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. On his radio program, he discusses current events and trends from a thoughtful Christian theological perspective. Well worth listening to.
- Children Desiring God Excellent curriculum for Sunday School, VBS, etc. This curriculum focuses on helping children love and respect God more than on learning "moral" lessons. We are using it for several of our classes and our Sunday-night kid's club, Kingdom Kids. Children Desiring God is a ministry of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
- Christian Communicators Worldwide The teaching and writing ministry of Jim Eliff. "CCW is the teaching and writing ministry of Jim Elliff. Our compelling interests are the reformation of the church, biblical evangelism, and the hope for authentic revival in our day."
- The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood CBMW seeks to promote understanding and practice of the biblical roles of men and women. Randy Stinson, the executive director, was our guest speaker for the Spring 2007 Northbrook Conference (see below).
- Desiring God "God-centered resources from the ministry of John Piper." Sermons, books, and more. We have both benefited from reading and listening to John Piper, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis. John Piper's works are all challenging and encouraging.
- Founders Ministries "Committed to historic Baptist principles -- A ministry of teaching and encouragement promoting both doctrine and devotion expressed in the Doctrines of Grace and their experiential application to the local church." The Founders Journal, especially, is helpful and encouraging to pastors, church leaders, and anyone who cares about the health of the local church.
- Grace to You The teaching ministry of John Macarthur, pastor-teacher at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. Macarthur is a great Bible expositor and preacher, and his ministry has provided the Church with many books and other resources.
- Indelible Grace Music High quality worship music. Often theologically solid old hymns set to new tunes.
- Ligonier Ministries R.C. Sproul's ministry provides useful books, Bible studies, and other resources. We're Baptist, and he's not, but we can learn a lot from his thoughtful preaching and teaching.
- Matthias Media We use the excellent gospel presentation booklet "Two Ways to Live" in a variety of ways here at Northbrook. Matthias Media also publishes good books and Bible Studies.
- The Northbrook Conference Northbrook's own semiannual conference focused on strengthening and encouraging local churches. The Fall 2007 conference is on building healthy churches.
- Shepherd Press Shepherd Press publishes books on parenting and family life from a Christian perspective. We have used the "Shepherding a Child's Heart" video curriculum in a small group parenting study.
- Sovereign Grace Music Great, theologically sound music from Sovereign Grace Ministries.
- Voddie Baucham Ministries Voddie Baucham is a preacher and teacher with much to say to American Christians. His teaching about ministry to youth and children is thought-provoking and challenging. Listen to his sermons and messages and read his books.
